Who is the 9-5 Wanderer?

Hello fellow traveler! I’m Amani, a twenty-something year old living on the East Coast of the United States who was bit by the travel bug at a young age. I recently finished grad school in a field I’m incredibly passionate about, and have a job that I love that I started about a year ago. I find inspiration in many of the amazing travellers out there in the blogosphere (as well as several friends outside of it) who quit their jobs to travel the world for years, never looking back.

Some days when the itch to travel is almost overwhelming I too am struck by the urge to quit my job, set sail, and never return. But most days, I’m pretty happy having a homebase and I like to think I’ve found a career that drives me towards making this world we live in a better place and in which I can thrive. I’m both blessed and cursed to work in a very international context surrounded by like-minded people, but I’ve got quite a few more years before I reach the point where I get sent on work trips to exotic locales, and in the meantime, the strong desire to travel is definitely still there.

So what’s a girl to do? The 9-5 Wanderer is a blog for the traveller who is in the space between staying in one place forever, and the forever-travelling nomad. The traveller who has a regular old 9-5 job, rent, student loans, and a modest income, but who every few months after staying at home, gets that itch to go out again and see the world. This blog reflects my experience as that girl, with some of my favorite destinations, what I’m doing to find money for travel on my less than lavish income, my travel tips, and what to do on those days when you’re desperate to jump on a plane but have to settle for a day wistfully scrolling through destination listcicles at your desk.
