I woke up this morning aghast to hear that Istanbul’s Ataturk Airport was devastated by a terrorist attack, with scores killed and hundreds injured. My heart is heavy for the city and country I fell in love with, which has been rocked by terrorist attacks and violence far too many times this year. I am filled with sadness for the lives lost and the families broken, but also disappointed as the western media yet again seems to treat the tragedy Turkey faces as of lesser value than those which hit closer to home. As the news continues to unfold and we try to process the senseless violence that has ensued, I’d like to pause and remember Istanbul with some of the photos I took there that highlight the city’s vibrancy, strength, and beauty.
