Weekend Wanderings: New York

As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, I’m a big fan of taking little weekend trips closer to home when bigger adventures are out of your reach and your budget. Last weekend, I went to New York to visit some of my friends from grad school- incidentally, all of whom landed on the East Coast after surreptitiously being kicked out of the UK when our student visas expired (more on that in another post).

From Boston, $50 and 4 hours on the Yo! Chinatown bus will get you to New York, making it a reasonable trip for me, despite my tight travel budget at the moment. I also have found the mythical $1 Bolt or Megabus tickets before, which can drive the price down to $35-$38 if you stumble upon them.

I have a blogger confession to make: I’m a terrible photographer and I rarely take pictures. Not ideal for a travel blogger, I know. My philosophy is usually to not take photos while I’m traveling so that I can fully soak up the experience and the moment I am in, instead of focusing on the angle, lighting, and subsequent instagram filters, while simultaneously blocking the sidewalks for disgruntled locals. That being said, I also realize that a travel blog is infinitely more interesting when there are photos of the places you’ve been! With that flattering introduction, here are some of the snaps I took while in New York:

Grand Central Station- I loved these beautiful orb lights

And another of Grand Central. Just being in train stations looking at the schedule boards makes me excited. Train stations and airports are some of my favorite places.

Pepe Rosso Social. Amazing food, casual atmosphere, cheeky waitstaff. I'm still dreaming of my cavatelli con polpettine. It was that good.

I have a penchant for buying cute little notebooks, only to never write in them. Thankfully, I resisted purchasing.
